NDLEA arrests 1,389 suspects, seizes 7,773kg of illicit drugs in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough in Kano State after arresting 1,389 people in connection with drug-related offences. The agency also recovered about 7,773 kilograms of different illegal drugs during a series of operations carried out across the state.

NDLEA officials said the arrests were made in markets, residential areas, highways, and known drug hotspots as part of a wider effort to reduce drug abuse and trafficking. The seized substances include cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup, and other dangerous drugs that pose serious risks to public health and security.

The agency explained that drug abuse has been linked to rising crime, violence, and social problems, especially among young people. It said the crackdown was aimed at protecting communities and stopping criminal networks that profit from selling harmful substances to vulnerable Nigerians.

NDLEA urged parents, religious leaders, community heads, and youth groups to support the fight against drugs by reporting suspicious activities and educating people about the dangers of drug abuse. The agency said sustained cooperation from the public is needed to keep Kano and the entire country safe.
