Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has said he deliberately visits communities that many government officials are afraid to go to. According to him, leadership should be about presence, especially in difficult places where people feel forgotten and abandoned by those in power.
Obi explained that his visits are meant to understand the real problems Nigerians face, including poverty, insecurity and lack of basic services. He said leaders cannot solve problems they do not see, stressing that policies made from offices alone often fail to reflect the realities on the ground.
He also criticised what he described as the growing gap between leaders and the people. Obi said too many politicians only show up during elections and disappear afterwards, leaving communities without support or representation.
Obi urged those in government to be more visible and accountable to the people they serve. He said real leadership means standing with citizens in hard times, not just when things are comfortable or politically convenient.
