The Labour Party (LP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu over his holiday trip to Europe at a time when Nigeria faces rising insecurity. Acting National Chairman Nenadi Usman described the visit as “insensitive and devoid of empathy” for Nigerians enduring violent attacks and humanitarian crises across the country.
Usman said the President should have stayed in Nigeria to coordinate responses to security threats, emphasizing that leaving during such a critical period was poorly timed. She highlighted the recent bomb explosion in Zamfara that killed nine people as an example of the urgency of leadership presence.
The LP further accused the government of downplaying the security situation and pointed out that critical meetings with military leadership had not been convened since the U.S.-led airstrikes on terrorist camps in Kwara and Sokoto States. Usman stressed that the President’s absence could negatively affect efforts to manage terrorism and protect citizens.
President Tinubu left Lagos for Europe ahead of an official visit to Abu Dhabi for the Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026) Summit, invited by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The trip coincides with a surge in terrorist attacks and follows U.S. airstrikes on terrorist camps in Sokoto, highlighting the ongoing security challenges facing the nation.
