The Akwa Ibom State Government has praised the Grace Efiong Osung Foundation for donating a modern primary healthcare centre to improve medical services in Okobo Local Government Area. The new facility, located in Udung Afiang community, was officially opened by Governor Umo Eno, who described the project as a strong example of how private individuals can support public development.
The governor, speaking through the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, commended Engr. Elvis Osung for building the centre in honour of his late mother, Grace Osung. He called the gesture a meaningful contribution to the health sector and encouraged residents to protect the facility so it can continue to serve the community for many years.
The health centre is equipped with key medical units including male and female wards, a labour ward, consulting rooms, a pharmacy, laboratory, nurses’ bay, outpatient department and staff accommodation. It has also been registered under the state health insurance scheme, with free insurance support provided for more than 100 families in the area.
Engr. Osung said the project was created to meet the healthcare needs of Udung Afiang and neighbouring communities while supporting government efforts to improve health services. He thanked his family for their encouragement and expressed hope that the centre would improve access to quality healthcare and reduce medical challenges for residents.
