Nigerian Army chief, Waidi Shaibu visits Sultan of Sokoto days after US airstrikes

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has paid a visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, just days after reported United States airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in parts of northern Nigeria. The visit was seen as a move to reassure traditional and community leaders about the military’s commitment to peace and stability.

During the meeting, Shaibu reportedly discussed the current security situation in the region and the need for continued cooperation between the military, local authorities, and traditional institutions. He emphasized that security efforts work best when communities support intelligence sharing and peaceful engagement.

The Sultan of Sokoto, a respected religious and traditional leader, is believed to have welcomed the visit and encouraged calm among residents. He also called on people to avoid panic, cooperate with security agencies, and reject any form of violence or extremism.

Observers say the visit sends a strong message that the Nigerian Army is working closely with community leaders to manage the security situation and prevent further unrest. It also highlights the role of dialogue and trust-building alongside military operations in addressing insecurity.
