Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has reacted to calls for the relocation of Nnamdi Kanu following the recent airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States against terrorist targets in northern Nigeria. He dismissed the calls, saying there is no justification to move Kanu from his current place of detention.
Ahmad argued that Nnamdi Kanu is being held alongside individuals already convicted of terrorism-related offences, and therefore remains in an environment considered appropriate and secure under Nigerian law. According to him, the airstrikes do not change Kanu’s legal status or the nature of the facility where he is being detained.
He also criticised those pushing for Kanu’s relocation, suggesting that such demands are politically motivated and aimed at generating sympathy rather than addressing legal realities. Ahmad insisted that due process should be allowed to run its full course without interference or emotional pressure.
The former aide further maintained that the government’s priority should remain on combating terrorism and ensuring national security, not yielding to what he described as unnecessary public pressure. He urged Nigerians to focus on supporting efforts to restore peace and stability in affected regions.
