A political analyst, Jega, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be held responsible for recent US military strikes in Nigeria. Speaking in an interview, he clarified that the operations were carried out independently by the United States in its fight against terrorism and were not directed by the Nigerian government.
Jega explained that while Nigeria collaborates with international partners on security matters, the decision to conduct airstrikes lies solely with the foreign government. He emphasized that attributing these military actions to President Tinubu is misleading and could create unnecessary political tension.
The analyst further noted that the US strikes aim to neutralize terrorist groups and improve regional security, which aligns with Nigeria’s broader counterterrorism goals. However, he stressed that it is important to distinguish between cooperative intelligence-sharing and direct operational involvement.
In conclusion, Jega urged Nigerians and the media to avoid holding national leaders accountable for foreign military actions. He advised citizens to focus on domestic security strategies and collaborative efforts that genuinely fall under the Nigerian government’s control.
