Imo: Police officers face orderly room trial over alleged extortion, unprofessionalism

The Imo State Police Command has begun disciplinary action against some of its officers accused of extortion and unprofessional conduct. The officers are expected to face an orderly room trial following complaints from members of the public. The move shows the command’s resolve to maintain discipline and restore confidence in policing within the state.

According to police authorities, the allegations include illegal collection of money from civilians and behavior that falls below acceptable standards of the force. The command noted that such actions damage the image of the Nigeria Police Force and undermine public trust. As a result, a thorough internal investigation has been ordered.

The police leadership stressed that no officer would be shielded from punishment if found guilty. It added that discipline and accountability remain core values of the force, and erring personnel would face appropriate sanctions in line with established rules. Law-abiding officers were also encouraged to continue carrying out their duties professionally.

Members of the public have welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive step toward police reform. Many believe that holding officers accountable will help reduce abuse of power and improve police-community relations. The Imo Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens while ensuring officers uphold ethical standards.
