Northern Christian youths have strongly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to immediately sack the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, over what they described as continued insecurity and poor leadership performance. The group said the minister has failed to justify his position despite rising security concerns across the northern region.
In a statement released on Monday, the youths accused Matawalle of lacking the capacity and commitment required to address banditry, terrorism, and other security challenges affecting communities. They argued that attacks on innocent citizens have continued unchecked, while decisive leadership remains absent.
The group further claimed that Matawalle’s continued stay in office sends the wrong signal to Nigerians, especially victims of insecurity. According to them, retaining officials who allegedly fail to deliver undermines public confidence in the government’s promise to restore peace and protect lives.
The youths urged President Tinubu to take swift action by appointing more competent hands who can bring fresh ideas and results to Nigeria’s security architecture. They maintained that removing underperforming officials would demonstrate seriousness in tackling insecurity and reassure citizens that their safety remains a top priority.
