Education experts have called on parents and schools to take a more active role in teaching children different languages and helping them appreciate cultural diversity. They explained that language skills open doors for young people and help them communicate better in today’s global world. According to them, learning multiple languages also improves confidence and supports better academic performance.
The educationists stressed that embracing different cultures in school helps children grow with open minds. They said that when students learn about the traditions, values, and history of other communities, they become more tolerant and respectful. This, they noted, helps reduce discrimination and encourages peaceful coexistence.
They also urged schools to include cultural activities in their yearly programs. Activities such as cultural festivals, language clubs, and exchange sessions can help students experience other ways of life first-hand. Schools were encouraged to partner with embassies, cultural groups, and writers to make learning more interesting.
Parents were advised to support this effort at home by allowing children to speak their mother tongue and learn new languages. The experts believe that if both parents and schools work together, Nigeria will have a future generation that appreciates diversity, communicates effectively, and contributes positively to society.
