The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially withdrawn from the upcoming local government elections in Borno State. The party said it cannot participate in a process it believes will not be free or transparent. According to PDP leaders, the conditions set by the electoral body did not give room for equal competition among political parties.
The party accused the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission of failing to provide a level playing field for all candidates. PDP members expressed concerns over the credibility of the preparations and noted that several issues raised earlier were ignored. They argued that going ahead with the polls under such circumstances would not reflect the true choice of the people.
PDP officials also claimed that the election timetable and guidelines were unfair and rushed. They added that some of their candidates were being frustrated, making it difficult for them to campaign freely. The party insisted that elections should be conducted in a manner that inspires trust, not suspicion.
The party concluded by calling on the government to ensure a better electoral environment in the future. They urged citizens to stay alert and demand fair elections at all levels. PDP maintained that it remains committed to democracy but cannot endorse a process it believes is already compromised.
