Yuletide: Nasarawa police launch statewide crackdown on fireworks, “knockouts”

The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched a statewide crackdown on the sale and use of fireworks and knockouts ahead of the Yuletide season. The move is aimed at preventing accidents, injuries, and panic among residents during the festive period.

Police authorities explained that fireworks and knockouts are often mistaken for gunshots, causing fear and confusion in communities. They also noted that these explosives pose serious risks, especially to children and young people who may misuse them.

According to the command, officers have been deployed across major towns and neighborhoods to enforce the ban. Traders and individuals found selling or using fireworks illegally will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.

The police urged residents to celebrate responsibly and report anyone involved in illegal fireworks activities. They assured the public of increased patrols and commitment to keeping Nasarawa safe throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
