Court Dismisses Emeka Ike’s N10bn Rights Suit Against Wike’s Aide, INEC

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a N10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Salim Ibrahim, in a judgment delivered on Wednesday, upheld the preliminary objections filed by the respondents, ruling that the suit was incompetent and improperly constituted.

The court also dismissed the substantive suit on the grounds that the actor failed to provide sufficient proof to substantiate his claims.

The legal dispute stemmed from an alleged social media post made by Olayinka in May, which Ike claimed exposed his confidential voter registration details.

The post reportedly contained information about the actor’s voter registration transfer from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Ike subsequently approached the court, alleging a violation of his fundamental rights and seeking N10 billion in damages over the incident.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, was filed by his counsel, L. T. Adeh, with Olayinka and INEC listed as the first and second respondents, respectively.

The court’s ruling brings the actor’s N10 billion damages claim against the respondents to an end at the trial court, subject to any further legal steps available to him.
