The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a strong warning to the Federal Government, insisting that all ongoing renegotiations must be completed before December 31. The union says it has waited long enough for the government to fulfill agreements that have dragged on for years, especially those concerning welfare, unpaid allowances and improved working conditions. SSANU made it clear that its patience is running out.
According to the association, workers in universities have continued to struggle under difficult conditions while the government keeps shifting deadlines. SSANU leaders explained that the union has shown maturity by avoiding constant strikes, but the government must now take its demands seriously. They stressed that failure to meet the new deadline would leave the union with no choice but to take drastic action.
The union stated that a full nationwide shutdown of university services is possible if the Federal Government fails to respond before the deadline. SSANU said the situation is not only about money but also about respect, fairness, and the survival of public universities. They warned that students will feel the impact if the government does not act quickly.
SSANU called on the government to be responsible and complete the renegotiation process before the year ends. They added that resolving the issues now would prevent another major disruption in the education sector. With the clock ticking, Nigerians are watching to see how the Federal Government responds to the union’s final warning.
