The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Nigerian government for acting quickly to respond to the attempted coup in Benin Republic while failing to urgently address insecurity within Nigeria. According to the party, the speed with which the government joined international efforts in Benin contrasts sharply with the slow and inconsistent approach used to tackle banditry, kidnapping and violent attacks at home.
ADC leaders said Nigerians continue to live in fear, with many communities facing daily threats from armed groups. They argued that the government must show the same level of urgency, coordination and commitment within its borders as it shows when responding to situations in neighbouring countries. The party added that insecurity has crippled farming, business activities and education in many states.
The party further stated that protecting citizens should be the top priority of any government. They urged the authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, support security agencies with better equipment and work more closely with local communities. According to them, Nigerians deserve a country where they can travel, farm, run businesses and attend school without fear.
ADC called on President Tinubu’s administration to review its security strategy and adopt more proactive measures. They insisted that Nigeria cannot lead peace efforts abroad while failing to guarantee peace and safety at home. The party advised leaders to pay closer attention to the suffering of citizens affected by growing insecurity across the country.
