The Akwa Ibom State Government has begun working with the Ray of Hope for the Sick and Lost (RTSL) to review the draft Animal Health Bill. This step is aimed at improving the health, safety, and welfare of animals across the state. Officials say the goal is to create a modern law that supports better disease control and strengthens public health.
During the review meeting, experts from the government and RTSL highlighted the need for clear guidelines on livestock management. They explained that many farmers still lack proper training, leading to outbreaks that could be prevented. By updating the bill, the state hopes to protect both animals and the people who depend on them for food and income.
RTSL representatives added that the review is important for aligning Akwa Ibom with global best practices. They stressed that animal health plays a big role in food security, trade regulations, and overall community well-being. Once the new bill is approved, it will promote responsible animal farming and reduce health risks.
The government assured stakeholders that the final version of the bill will reflect contributions from all sectors involved in animal production. The review process will continue until all necessary updates are completed, paving the way for a stronger and more effective Animal Health Law in the state.
