Small business owners in Ogun State have raised alarm over the rising number of taxes and levies placed on them by different agencies. According to them, the multiple charges are eating into their profits and making it hard to stay in business. Many MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) say the situation has reached a point where running a business feels like a constant battle for survival.
The entrepreneurs explained that aside from tax pressure, most of them also struggle to secure loans. They noted that banks and lenders usually demand strict conditions that many small businesses cannot meet. Those who manage to get loans face high interest rates, making repayment difficult and risky for their fragile operations.
Some business owners added that the tough economic situation has worsened everything. Increased prices of raw materials, high cost of transportation, and unstable power supply have made it difficult for them to break even. They believe that government support is urgently needed to keep the sector from collapsing.
The MSMEs called on the Ogun State Government and federal agencies to reduce the tax burden, simplify loan access, and create policies that will help small businesses grow. They stressed that MSMEs are the backbone of the Nigerian economy, and supporting them will boost job creation and economic stability.
