Alleged $322.5m Abacha loot: Malami breaks silence, rejects EFCC claims

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has finally responded to the claims made by the EFCC regarding the alleged mismanagement of the $322.5 million Abacha loot. Malami said the accusations suggesting he diverted or mishandled the funds are completely untrue and have no factual backing. He stressed that all recovered assets were handled according to due process and government-approved procedures.

He explained that the funds in question were managed under strict guidelines, including agreements with international partners and monitoring systems designed to ensure transparency. Malami noted that the EFCC’s report failed to consider these legal frameworks, which, according to him, makes their allegations misleading and unfair.

The former AGF further stated that every action taken during his tenure was carried out in line with federal laws and in consultation with relevant ministries. He added that recovery efforts were always documented and submitted to the appropriate authorities, leaving no room for secret transactions or unlawful decisions.

Malami urged Nigerians to rely on verified records rather than public assumptions or politically influenced claims. He emphasized that he is ready to defend his role in court or before any panel, insisting that the truth will clear his name regarding the $322.5 million Abacha loot saga.
