North West summit: Uba Sani, Defence Minister, Don proffer solutions to insecurity

At the North West Peace and Security Summit, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, the Minister of Defence, and several security scholars came together to discuss fresh solutions to the rising insecurity across the region. They noted that bandit attacks, kidnappings, and communal clashes continue to threaten the lives and livelihoods of people in the North West.

Governor Uba Sani said the region needs teamwork among states and security agencies to defeat criminal groups. He stressed that no state can handle the challenge alone, and that sharing intelligence, resources, and strategies will make security operations stronger and faster.

The Minister of Defence highlighted the need for modern equipment, better training, and improved welfare for security personnel. He added that communities must also be involved by reporting suspicious activities early. According to him, restoring peace requires both military strength and community cooperation.

A university professor who spoke at the summit advised that long-term solutions must focus on education, jobs, and reducing poverty—factors that often push young people into crime. The summit ended with a commitment from all stakeholders to work together and take firm action to restore safety across the North West.
