A civil society organisation (CSO) has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of using Nigeria’s rising security challenges as a tool for political gain. According to the group, the ADC’s recent statements on insecurity were designed to stir public emotions instead of offering real solutions. The CSO warned that turning national safety concerns into political talking points could worsen tensions across the country.
The organisation explained that security issues require unity, not political scoring. It criticised the ADC for making comments that allegedly portray the government as doing nothing, saying such remarks mislead citizens and weaken trust in security institutions. The group stressed that political actors must avoid language that could fuel fear or divisions.
In its statement, the CSO urged all political parties to focus on practical ideas that could help security agencies, rather than exploiting the suffering of citizens. They emphasised that insecurity affects everyone, and responsible leadership means working towards solutions, not blame. The group added that constructive collaboration is more beneficial than political grandstanding.
The CSO also appealed to Nigerians to be cautious about politically-motivated narratives shared online. They encouraged the public to support peace initiatives and hold leaders accountable for realistic plans. The group concluded that using tragedy for political advantage is harmful and distracts from achieving lasting security improvements.
