Plateau: Gov Mutfwang Tells Senate Committee 12,000 People Killed in 25 Years

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has revealed shocking figures to the Senate Committee investigating insecurity across the country. He explained that in the last 25 years, about 12,000 people have been killed, while over 420 communities in the state have suffered repeated attacks. According to him, the long-lasting violence has deeply affected families, destroyed livelihoods, and created fear across many local government areas.

The governor told the lawmakers that the attacks were not random but part of a long pattern of organised violence targeted at farming communities. He added that thousands of people have been displaced, with many still unable to return to their homes due to the presence of armed groups. Mutfwang stressed that these communities need strong support to rebuild and recover from the destruction.

Governor Mutfwang urged the Senate Committee to push for stronger security measures to stop future attacks. He said Plateau State cannot recover fully unless peace is restored and justice is served. He called for better coordination among security agencies, more resources, and improved intelligence gathering to protect vulnerable areas.

He also appealed for long-term solutions such as establishing farming support, rebuilding destroyed houses, and helping displaced people return home safely. The governor said the state government is doing its best but needs the Federal Government’s intervention to bring lasting peace and stability.
