Akpabio unveils 2025–2030 counter-terrorism plan

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially launched Nigeria’s new 2025–2030 Counter-Terrorism Strategy, a long-term plan aimed at strengthening national security and reducing the threat of terrorism across the country. The strategy focuses on intelligence gathering, improved coordination among security agencies, and stronger community involvement in fighting violent extremism.

Akpabio explained that the plan was designed to respond to Nigeria’s changing security challenges. He noted that terrorism has evolved over the years, and the government must adopt modern methods, better technology, and more proactive measures to stay ahead of criminal groups. He also emphasized the need for continuous training of security officers to ensure effective operations.

Part of the strategy includes programs that target the root causes of radicalization, such as poverty, unemployment, and lack of education. According to Akpabio, addressing these issues will help reduce the appeal of extremist groups and create a safer environment for citizens. The plan also calls for stronger partnerships with international allies to support security reforms.

Akpabio urged Nigerians to support the initiative, saying that security is a shared responsibility. He added that the success of the 2025–2030 counter-terrorism plan depends on cooperation between government, communities, and security institutions. The launch marks a major step in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and its commitment to long-term peace.
