Ground Rent: You’ll lose your properties to FCTA – Wike issues last warning to defaulters

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a final warning to property owners who have failed to pay their ground rent in Abuja. Wike stated that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will not hesitate to revoke the rights of defaulters and reclaim their properties if they continue to ignore payment notices. He emphasized that the government will strictly enforce the law to ensure proper revenue collection.

Wike explained that many property owners have refused to meet their financial obligations despite multiple reminders. According to him, these unpaid charges have negatively affected the FCTA’s ability to fund essential services and development projects. He stressed that ground rent is a legal requirement and must be taken seriously by all property holders within the capital territory.

The minister further noted that the administration has already compiled a list of those who have consistently defaulted. He warned that once the final deadline expires, enforcement teams will begin the process of revoking titles and reallocating such properties to responsible citizens or investors. Wike said the era of negligence and entitlement is over.

He urged all affected property owners to pay their outstanding fees immediately to avoid losing their investments. Wike added that the FCTA is committed to fairness but will not tolerate deliberate refusal to comply with regulations governing land ownership in Abuja. He called on residents to cooperate with the administration for improved development and accountability.
