Former senator Shehu Sani has cautioned that the recent announcement about the police withdrawing security details from VIPs may remain a mere statement unless effectively implemented. Sani expressed concern that past promises of similar reforms were often not followed through, leaving the public doubtful about the government’s commitment to security reforms.

According to Sani, meaningful change requires clear policies, accountability, and strict supervision to ensure compliance by security agencies. He warned that without proper monitoring, the withdrawal of police protection for VIPs might remain symbolic, benefiting neither the public nor enhancing national security.

Sani emphasised that true security reform should focus on protecting ordinary citizens as well as implementing structural changes within law enforcement. He urged the government to take concrete steps to ensure that reforms are not just announcements but are reflected in practical actions across all security agencies.

Finally, the former lawmaker encouraged citizens to demand transparency and follow-up from authorities.
