Primate Elijah Ayodele has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the growing insecurity in the country, saying a leader who cannot secure his people should step down. The cleric expressed worry about the rising cases of kidnappings, bandit attacks, and killings, stressing that Nigerians no longer feel safe in their own communities.
According to Ayodele, insecurity has become a daily nightmare for citizens, and the government’s efforts are not producing visible results. He said the president must take stronger actions to protect lives or give room for someone else who can do the job better. The religious leader noted that many families are living in fear, while the security agencies appear overwhelmed.
Ayodele added that the continuous attacks are a sign that the system is failing, and leaders must stop pretending. He urged the government to prioritise intelligence gathering, improve equipment for security forces, and address the root causes of violence. He warned that ignoring these problems will only make the situation worse.
He concluded by saying that leadership is a responsibility, not a title, and any leader who cannot guarantee citizens’ safety should reconsider their position. Ayodele urged Tinubu to show urgency, sincerity, and compassion in handling the crisis affecting Nigerians across the country.
