ASUU strike: Students must not become collateral damage – NANS warns

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has raised concerns over the ongoing ASUU strike, warning that students must not be turned into victims of the crisis. The association said the continuous academic interruptions affect young people the most, leaving them uncertain about their education and future.

NANS stressed that both the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities must find a peaceful and quick solution. The student body noted that every strike extends the academic calendar, increases frustration, and leads many students into risky behaviors due to prolonged idleness.

According to NANS, the current situation shows that education is not given proper priority in the country. They warned that students bear the biggest burden each time lecturers and government fail to agree. The association urged both sides to put national interest first and ensure learning activities resume without delay.

The group concluded by calling for honest dialogue, transparency, and commitment to resolving the issues permanently. NANS maintained that Nigerian students cannot continue to be “collateral damage” in repeated disputes between the government and ASUU.
