Life imprisonment: Family meets Nnamdi Kanu, gives updates

The family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has given fresh updates following his life imprisonment verdict. The judgement, delivered by Justice James K. Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has sparked debates and reactions across Nigeria. Kanu was found guilty of terrorism-related charges, leading to the heavy sentence.

After the ruling, Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, visited him and later shared details of their conversation on Facebook. According to Emmanuel, Kanu reacted with laughter when asked about the verdict. He reportedly questioned how the judge could convict him using a law that has already been repealed, insisting such an action invalidates the entire judgement.

Emmanuel added that Kanu described the trial as biased, alleging that the evidence used against him was fabricated. He also raised concerns about earlier court rulings that had cleared him, asking why those decisions were ignored. His family believes these inconsistencies show that the judgement did not follow due process.

Kanu’s brother concluded that the judgement looked like a “planned script” rather than a fair legal outcome. The family maintains that they will continue to challenge the decision, while supporters across the country await further legal steps on the matter.
