Nnamdi Kanu removed from court for ‘unruly’ conduct as judge delivers judgment

There was tension in court on Wednesday as the judge ordered the removal of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed IPOB, after he reportedly became unruly during the delivery of his judgment. The incident happened at the Federal High Court, where security personnel had been deployed in large numbers. Witnesses said the courtroom became tense as Kanu repeatedly interrupted proceedings.

According to reports, Kanu raised his voice several times and challenged the court’s authority as the judge began reading out the decision. His conduct was said to be in violation of courtroom rules, prompting the judge to instruct security officers to escort him out so the judgment could continue without disruption.

Despite Kanu’s removal, the judge proceeded with the ruling, emphasizing that no individual—regardless of their status—is allowed to interrupt court procedures. The court highlighted that maintaining order is necessary for justice to be served fairly and transparently.

Outside the courtroom, reactions were mixed. Some supporters accused the court of provoking Kanu, while others admitted that his behaviour may have crossed the line. Legal analysts noted that courtroom disruptions often weaken a defendant’s legal standing and can influence how strictly the court handles the case.

The ruling session continued under heavy security, with the judge urging the public to remain calm while the legal process runs its course. Kanu’s lawyers later stated that they would address the incident and explore their next legal steps. The full implications of his outburst are expected to unfold as the case progresses.
