The Association of Victims of Injustice and Discrimination (AVID) has accused the UK government of allowing the Nigerian government to persecute its citizen, Nnamdi Kanu. AVID claims that Britain’s inaction is indirectly supporting violations of Kanu’s rights.
According to AVID, the Nigerian government has intensified legal and political actions against Kanu, and the lack of robust intervention from the UK raises serious concerns about the protection of its nationals abroad. They argue that Britain must uphold international human rights standards to prevent abuse.
The advocacy group is calling on UK authorities to intervene and ensure that Kanu receives fair treatment under international law. They emphasize that ignoring such cases sets a dangerous precedent for the treatment of foreign nationals facing political persecution.
Legal and human rights experts note that the case highlights the complex interplay between international diplomacy and human rights enforcement, urging both governments to act transparently and responsibly.
