A security and foreign affairs analyst, Confidence Angalapu, has warned that Nigeria’s weak and poorly coordinated foreign policy is creating room for powerful nations to interfere in the country’s internal affairs. Angalapu made the comment while reacting to recent threats issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that such statements gain influence because Nigeria has not built a strong diplomatic stance.
He explained that Nigeria’s inconsistent diplomatic posture, lack of clear national interests, and failure to assert leadership in Africa have made the nation vulnerable. According to him, foreign actors exploit these gaps to push their agendas, often without facing consequences. Angalapu stressed that strong countries only interfere when smaller nations fail to defend their sovereignty through firm policy direction.
Angalapu also highlighted that Nigeria used to command respect on the global stage but has lost that influence due to internal instability, economic challenges, and a declining commitment to strategic diplomacy. He urged the government to rebuild its foreign policy structure and reclaim regional leadership roles.
He concluded that unless Nigeria strengthens its diplomacy, clarifies its national interests, and improves internal governance, it will continue to face interference and unwanted pressure from global powers like the United States.
