Former Watford striker, Troy Deeney, has criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the ongoing bonus dispute involving the Super Eagles ahead of their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers playoffs.
Deeney described the situation as “a real shame,” saying that players should not have to worry about unpaid bonuses when preparing for crucial international matches. He noted that such off-field distractions can affect team morale and performance.
Speaking on a sports show in the UK, Deeney said, “These are talented players representing their country with pride. It’s disappointing that financial issues continue to come up before big games. The focus should be on football, not on whether players get paid.”
The Super Eagles had reportedly boycotted training earlier in the week over unpaid bonuses. Although talks are ongoing between team officials and the NFF, the issue has drawn criticism from fans and football pundits worldwide.
