The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to protecting freedom of speech and the press in Nigeria.
Speaking at a media stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Idris emphasized that the government values the role of journalists in strengthening democracy and promoting accountability. He stated that President Tinubu believes in the importance of an open society where citizens can freely express their opinions without fear.
Idris, however, urged media practitioners to practice responsible journalism by avoiding fake news, hate speech, and misinformation that could threaten national unity. He assured that the government will continue to create an enabling environment for the media to operate freely and professionally.
The Minister reaffirmed that the Tinubu-led administration respects the constitution and will not tolerate any form of censorship or intimidation against the press.
