The Kebbi State House of Assembly has cancelled the existing Child’s Right Law and replaced it with a new Child Protection Bill. Lawmakers explained that the former law did not fully reflect local values and realities, so a fresh bill was needed to better protect children in the state.
According to the Assembly, the new bill strengthens the protection of minors from abuse, exploitation, early marriage, and other harmful practices. They noted that the updated law was designed after wide consultations with community leaders, legal experts, parents, and religious stakeholders to ensure it fits Kebbi State’s social and cultural setting.
Lawmakers said the main goal is to give every child in Kebbi a safer environment to grow, learn, and live without fear. The Assembly added that while cultural values are respected, children’s rights and wellbeing remain a top priority.
They urged citizens to support the law so children can enjoy a better future. The bill will now be sent to the governor for assent before implementation begins across the state.
