Former Senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has cautioned Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, against using soldiers for political stunts. Sani warned that involving the military in political matters could escalate tensions and undermine national security.
Speaking on the issue, Sani emphasized that politicians should avoid actions that could provoke the armed forces or compromise their professionalism. He advised Wike and other political leaders to engage in peaceful and lawful campaigns rather than create unnecessary spectacles involving security personnel.
The former lawmaker also called on citizens to hold politicians accountable and ensure that security agencies remain neutral in all political activities. According to Sani, respecting institutional boundaries is essential to maintaining stability in Nigeria.
Political analysts have noted that the use of soldiers for political visibility can have long-term consequences, including public distrust of the military and heightened political polarization.
