300 forest guards appeal to Gov Otu over unpaid salaries

About 300 forest guards have petitioned Governor Otu over unpaid salaries, urging the government to settle their arrears immediately. The guards claimed they have not received their wages for several months, leaving them financially strained while performing crucial duties to protect the state’s forests and natural resources.

The appeal was made in a letter submitted to the state government, highlighting the challenges faced by the guards due to the delay in payment. They explained that the unpaid salaries have affected their ability to provide for their families and fulfill personal obligations.

The forest guards stressed that despite their dedication to safeguarding forests and wildlife, the lack of timely remuneration has demoralized them and hindered operational efficiency. They called on Governor Otu to prioritize their welfare and ensure that all pending salaries are cleared without further delay.

Some of the guards also warned that continued neglect could affect forest protection activities, potentially leading to increased illegal logging and other environmental crimes. They emphasized that fair and timely payment would motivate them to maintain high standards in their work.

The state government has yet to respond officially to the appeal. Meanwhile, the forest guards remain hopeful that Governor Otu will take swift action to address the issue and restore their financial stability.
