As voting commenced for the Anambra State governorship election, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the most active parties on the ground. In several polling units across Awka, only these two parties had their agents present, while representatives from other parties were largely absent.
At Awka Ward VI, polling units 010, 024, and 025, located at the Federal Government Technical College (GTC), APGA and APC were the only parties with agents. APGA was represented by Mr. Chukwuma Anekwe, while Mr. John Morah represented APC. The Supervisory Presiding Officer confirmed that out of the 16 registered candidates, only these two parties had agents in attendance.
When asked about being one of only two agents at the polling unit, Mr. Morah of APC responded confidently, saying he had no issues with the situation, noting that it was not his concern if other parties failed to send representatives.
Observers noted that the dominance of APGA and APC agents could influence polling unit dynamics, given their consistent presence and ability to monitor the voting process. Their presence also reflects the parties’ preparedness and organizational strength compared to other candidates in the race.
As the election progresses, the focus remains on voter turnout, compliance with electoral regulations, and ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity to cast their ballots fairly. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to oversee the election to ensure transparency and credibility.
