IPOB using Intersociety to spread fake religious statistics – Buhari’s ex-aide, Ahmad

A former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has accused the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of using civil rights group Intersociety to push fake religious population figures in Nigeria. Ahmad said the group is trying to create religious tension by spreading false claims about the number of Muslims and Christians in the country. He warned Nigerians not to fall for what he described as “propaganda aimed at dividing the nation.”

According to Ahmad, the data released by Intersociety about religious demographics is questionable and appears politically motivated. He alleged that IPOB and its supporters are behind the misleading statistics, adding that the goal is to give the impression that Christians are being targeted or marginalized in Nigeria. Ahmad insisted that such claims are baseless and harmful to national unity.

He argued that fake statistics have been a major tool used by groups seeking to cause confusion and fuel religious rivalry. Ahmad urged Nigerians to rely on credible government sources and independent global data instead of politically driven figures. He emphasized that religion should not be used to create hatred or suspicion among citizens.

The former presidential aide also called on security agencies and the government to take misinformation seriously. He said spreading false information about religion and population can destabilize the nation and trigger unnecessary conflict. Ahmad noted that groups hiding under human-rights activism must be held accountable for inciting statements.

Ahmad concluded by appealing to Nigerians to remain united and ignore divisive messages. He maintained that peaceful coexistence and truth are more important than propaganda or emotional manipulation. According to him, the country needs unity and facts, not fear-driven narratives.
