Army dismisses social media claims on Kogi rescue operation

The Nigerian Army has dismissed social media claims suggesting that photos from its recent rescue mission in Kogi State were old. The Army clarified that the images released from the operation were taken during the real mission on 2 November 2025, and not recycled content as alleged online.

According to a statement signed by Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade, the photos were captured by troops stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma and contain verifiable geolocation details confirming they came from the actual rescue site in Achigili Forest.

The Army described the online allegations as baseless and aimed at damaging public trust in security operations. It emphasized that its media releases always go through strict verification to ensure accuracy and transparency.

The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the false reports and continue supporting security agencies with useful information to help tackle crime in Kogi and across Nigeria. The Army reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and upholding professional standards.
