Nigerian troops crush terror cells, rescue 17 kidnap victims, arrest 20 suspects

The Nigerian Army has recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against insecurity, rescuing 17 kidnapped victims and arresting 20 suspects within 48 hours. A military source confirmed that the coordinated operations took place across key regions including the North-East, North-West, North-Central, and South-South.

According to the source, soldiers from the 192 Battalion, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force, engaged ISWAP fighters at Hudugum village in Borno State, neutralising two terrorists. In a related development, three insurgents surrendered to troops in Kukawa and Damboa after losing confidence in their commanders and experiencing worsening hardship in their camps.

In the North-West, troops of 1 Brigade successfully stopped two kidnap attempts and rescued 11 victims along major routes in Zamfara State. Security forces in the North-Central region also arrested 15 suspects and rescued four abducted individuals during operations in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kaduna States.

Security operations also extended to the South-South, where soldiers uncovered two illegal oil refining sites in Bayelsa State and intercepted 62 sacks of stolen crude oil in Imo State. Authorities say these efforts are part of a renewed military push to eliminate criminal activities across the nation.

The Army affirmed its commitment to keeping the country safe, noting that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, is focused on maintaining the momentum in restoring peace nationwide.
