Former Ondo State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Segun Oyegbolu, has reaffirmed that Shehu Gabam remains the National Chairman of the party despite reports claiming he has been expelled. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, Oyegbolu dismissed the expulsion announcement as false and politically motivated.
Oyegbolu stated that the SDP is not experiencing any internal crisis, stressing that those claiming to have removed Gabam are not recognised members of the party. According to him, such individuals have no official standing in the SDP and are also not acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that all verified SDP state chairmen were confirmed by INEC as of January 30, 2025, noting that the party’s structure across the states remains intact. Oyegbolu argued that the people behind the so-called expulsion are faceless and lack legal authority within the party.
Describing the claims as political gossip, he said allegations of Gabam’s expulsion should not be taken seriously. Oyegbolu maintained that Gabam continues to be the rightful national leader of the SDP and that party members are united behind him.
He concluded that the party remains stable and focused, urging the public to ignore what he called “beer parlour stories” being circulated to cause confusion.
