Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the separatist leader’s brother, have all been released from Kuje Prison after fulfilling their bail conditions.
The trio, alongside other protesters, were detained following their participation in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration in Abuja. Sowore, who led the protest, was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force when he appeared at the Federal High Court during Kanu’s trial. They were later arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Kuje Area Council, which granted them bail last Friday.
In a video shared by SaharaReporters on Monday, Sowore, Ejimakor, and Prince Emmanuel were seen leaving the prison with their belongings, singing songs of solidarity and freedom. Their release has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with supporters celebrating what they described as a triumph for civil rights and peaceful activism.
It was earlier reported that Ejimakor collapsed during detention and was rushed to the Kuje Prison clinic for urgent medical attention. His release has since been confirmed, and he is said to be recovering.
The #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest continues to attract attention, as supporters of the detained IPOB leader maintain calls for his unconditional release, citing ongoing concerns about his health and prolonged detention.
