Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba, has said that President Bola Tinubu has the capacity to deliver a new constitution that reflects the true aspirations of Nigerians within six months.
Agbakoba made this known during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television. He stressed that with the right political will and resources, the Tinubu administration could lead the process of drafting a new constitution that would decentralize power and promote development across the country.
According to him, the current structure gives too much power to the presidency, which limits the ability of state governments to function effectively. He explained that a new constitution should focus on devolution of powers, allowing states to play a more active role in governance and development.
“President Tinubu is the only person who has the capacity to drive a new constitutional process and can give Nigerians one within six months, as the National Assembly has taken too long to provide a solution,” Agbakoba said.
Speaking further, he also praised human rights activist Omoyele Sowore for his courage and consistency in standing up for citizens’ rights, especially following his recent arrest during protests calling for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
