Fuel landing cost drops, now cheaper than Dangote Refinery’s petrol price

The landing cost of imported petrol in Nigeria has dropped to ₦839.97 per litre as of October 21, 2025, making it cheaper than petrol produced by the Dangote Refinery, which sells for ₦877 per litre. This information was disclosed in the latest energy price bulletin released by the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN).

According to MEMAN’s report, the current figure represents a slight decrease from ₦841.54 per litre recorded on October 20, 2025. Speaking with DAILY POST, the spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike, confirmed the development, attributing it to increased competition and deregulation in the downstream sector.

Ukadike explained that the ongoing “price war” between importers and local producers has given marketers more flexibility in choosing cheaper petrol sources. “It is due to the liberalisation of the sector. Marketers now have the option to buy either at ₦877 per litre from Dangote Refinery or ₦839 from MEMAN,” he said.

The drop in landing cost is expected to trigger a reduction in retail petrol prices across the country, as marketers adjust to remain competitive. Checks by DAILY POST showed that ex-depot prices for Emedab, Gulf Treasure, Ardova, and Bono currently stand at ₦875 per litre, while Dangote Refinery maintains its ex-depot price at ₦877.

However, at retail outlets in Abuja, petrol prices remain between ₦950 and ₦965 per litre, with stations such as NNPC, MRS, Ranoil, Total, and Emedab dispensing within that range. Industry watchers believe the recent decline could ease pump prices in the coming days if the trend continues.
