The Lagos State Government has launched an official investigation into a staff member of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) over allegations of diverting public funds into a personal bank account. The probe follows a viral post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where a user accused the agency worker of directing payments meant for LASAA to an Opay account.
According to the whistleblower identified as @Bhadmoz (TrueBlue), some customers were reportedly charged ₦45,000 for services but were issued receipts showing only ₦7,100. The post, which gained public attention, tagged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, demanding quick intervention.
In response, Commissioner Wahab confirmed that the individual mentioned in the viral report is indeed a staff member of LASAA. He directed that the accused officer report to the agency’s headquarters for immediate disciplinary action. Wahab stated, “My attention has been drawn to a post alleging improper transaction practices involving a staff member of an agency under our ministry. I have instructed that the officer appear at the agency’s head office tomorrow to face disciplinary proceedings.”
Reaffirming the government’s stance on accountability and transparency, Wahab stressed that unethical conduct within public service will not be tolerated. He further appreciated vigilant citizens who help expose corruption, noting that maintaining integrity in governance requires collective effort.
LASAA, the agency responsible for regulating outdoor advertising and signage across Lagos, has promised to review its internal control systems to prevent future occurrences. The investigation continues as the state government pushes for stricter measures to promote transparency and discipline within its ministries and agencies.
