Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has finally addressed reports suggesting that he has fallen out with the current governor of the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf. Kwankwaso, who is widely seen as Yusuf’s political godfather, dismissed the rumours, describing them as false and politically motivated stories spread by detractors who are uncomfortable with the unity in the NNPP.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, Kwankwaso said his relationship with Governor Yusuf remains strong and focused on delivering good governance to the people of Kano State. He emphasized that such rumours were the handiwork of opposition figures trying to create division between him and the governor. “There is no problem between me and Governor Yusuf. Those spreading such lies only want to distract us from our mission to serve the people,” he said.
Kwankwaso further explained that he remains committed to supporting the administration in implementing development projects across the state. According to him, the NNPP government in Kano has been working tirelessly to improve education, healthcare, and infrastructure, stressing that his priority is to see Kano continue to prosper under the current leadership.
The NNPP leader also urged party members and supporters to disregard the rumours of a rift and instead focus on strengthening the party ahead of the next general elections. He warned against internal conflicts and called for unity and discipline among members. “We are one family in NNPP. Our goal is to continue building a strong political movement that will bring positive change to Nigeria,” he added.
Political analysts believe the rumours of a disagreement were fueled by political rivals who see the strong alliance between Kwankwaso and Yusuf as a major threat ahead of the 2027 elections. With Kwankwaso’s recent clarification, supporters of the NNPP say the statement has laid the issue to rest, reaffirming the bond between the two Kano leaders.
