The Northern Elders Unity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political allies of plotting to destabilize the party and weaken opposition politics in Nigeria. The elders made this claim in a communiqué issued after their 18th General Meeting, where they also reaffirmed full confidence in the leadership of Acting National Chairman, Iliya Umar Damagum.
According to the Forum’s National Secretary, Abbas Sadauki, some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have allegedly been working with external political forces to derail the upcoming PDP National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. He described such actions as a direct threat to the unity and survival of the PDP.
Sadauki maintained that no amount of political intimidation or blackmail would stop the successful organization of the convention. “Those misleading groups within the party to scuttle the convention are mere jokers — predators unleashed against our collective interest. Their unholy alliance with enemies of progress will soon end in political shame and regret,” he declared.
The Forum accused Wike of using his political influence and ambitions to create internal division, warning that such actions were dangerous to democracy and the integrity of the opposition. They praised Ambassador Damagum and other loyal members for their steadfastness and commitment to rebuilding the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In addition, the Northern Elders cautioned both the judiciary and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resist any attempts by political actors to manipulate national institutions. They reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to the PDP’s leadership and insisted that the National Executive Committee’s decision to proceed with the convention must be respected by all party members.
