Retired Oil Workers Commend NUPRC, Urge Commission to Deepen Reforms and Stakeholder Engagement

The Forum of Retired Oil Workers has called on the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to sustain its ongoing reform efforts and maintain strong accountability standards across the oil and gas industry.

In a statement released by the forum’s president, Richard Jackson, the group praised the leadership of Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, describing his tenure as a new era of transparency, efficiency, and investor confidence in Nigeria’s upstream sector.

According to the statement, the steady increase in rig activity — from just eight in 2021 to about 70 currently — and the boost in oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day are clear signs of the Commission’s reform success. The group said these achievements highlight the impact of NUPRC’s effective regulatory policies.

The retired oil workers also advised the Commission to enhance stakeholder engagement and continue promoting global best practices in governance, safety, and transparency. They stressed that these values are essential for maintaining the sector’s current growth and stability.

Jackson further commended Komolafe for demonstrating that reform-driven leadership and responsible regulation can reposition Nigeria’s oil and gas industry as a trusted destination for international investors. He urged the Commission to keep building on its current momentum to ensure sustainable progress in the years ahead.
