Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that winger Amad Diallo was visibly upset after being substituted during their 2-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield.
Speaking after the match, Amorim praised Diallo for his strong performance but explained that the decision to take him off was purely tactical. “Amad is doing so well in that position. He is perfect for that position,” Amorim told reporters. “He was upset today when I made the sub, but he had a yellow card, and there was a lot of man-to-man marking on his side. It was just for safety reasons.”
Amorim further highlighted Diallo’s growing importance to the team, noting that the 22-year-old Ivorian has been improving despite facing some challenges in recent weeks. “If not for the yellow card, he would have continued in the game because he is so important for us,” the coach added.
The Portuguese tactician also commended Diallo’s professionalism and resilience, emphasizing that the player remains a key part of his long-term plans. “He struggled in recent weeks, but we are here for him, and that is the most important thing,” Amorim said.
Manchester United secured victory through goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, handing Amorim his first major win against Arne Slot’s Liverpool side and moving the Red Devils closer to the top four in the Premier League standings.
