Anambra guber: Soludo, APGA setting up LGs for vote-buying – ADC candidate, Nwosu alleges

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, John Chuma Nwosu, has accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of breaching the Electoral Act 2022 through alleged vote-buying schemes involving local governments.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Nwosu claimed that the APGA-led government has been coercing various communities and town unions to make donations to Governor Soludo’s re-election campaign. According to him, the scale of these donations amounts to a “flagrant violation of the law” and raises ethical questions.

“I’m aware that some groups and town unions have made large donations to Governor Soludo’s campaign. If these funds come from inflated contracts or government-controlled sources, then it’s wrong and borders on criminality,” Nwosu said. He added that using local government resources to fund campaign activities creates a conflict of interest and shows “official dishonesty.”

The ADC candidate also noted that many residents have expressed concerns about the practice, fearing that it could worsen governance problems in the state. Nwosu described the actions as “a charade” and condemned what he called a pattern of vote-buying and manipulation that undermines democracy in Anambra State.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the reports and ensure a free and fair election. “Elections should be won by the will of the people, not through coercion or inducement,” Nwosu warned, calling on voters not to sell their votes or compromise their democratic rights.
