Tragedy struck on Friday evening when gunmen attacked a police station in Zonkwa town, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at least two police officers. The violent raid threw the usually peaceful community into panic and confusion.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the station — located near Kamyim Hotel, Kurmin-Bi Zonkwa — and began shooting indiscriminately. Their mission, according to reports, was to free some suspected vandals who had earlier been arrested in Kachia town. “They thought the suspects were being detained at the Zonkwa Police Station,” a witness revealed. “Unfortunately, the suspects were not even held there, but damage had already been done.”
Videos circulating online showed two officers lying lifeless on the floor of the police station, while shocked residents gathered to discuss the tragic event. The incident underscores the growing security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in parts of northern Nigeria.
A security source confirmed the attack but declined to provide more details. Meanwhile, calm has reportedly been restored to Zonkwa town following the assault.
As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack, though investigations are said to be ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits.
